Dr. Vu is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in the medical and surgical treatment of retina and macular diseases.
He was raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Chicago, majoring in the History of Science and Medicine. His thesis examined the doctor-patient relationship. In 1995, Dr. Vu received his medical degree from the Penn State University School of Medicine. He completed his ophthalmology residency at the University of Virginia, serving as the Chief Resident. Subsequently, he completed a medical and surgical retina fellowship at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas. He joined Retina Associates in 2001 and became a partner in 2005.
Dr. Vu has published scientific papers, book chapters, and presented at national meetings on macular and retina disorders. He has served as a principal investigator for clinical trials on macular degeneration and retina vein occlusions. He has clinical interest in macular degeneration, retina vein occlusions, diabetic retinopathy, minimally invasive retina-vitreous surgery, and retinal imaging. Dr. Vu is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and the Maryland Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons. He also serves as the medical director for the Foundation Fighting Blindness in Montgomery County.
He enjoys helping patients and families better understand their retina and macular conditions. Dr. Vu and his family reside in Montgomery County.
